We had a wonderful time at Agave this afternoon. Juan immediately greeted us at our table and had drinks quickly. I thought I ordered a peach margarita, but received a pitcher of really good lime margaritas. My spouse had a cold mugged Modelo (and helped me drink the pitcher). I had the Chipotle enchiladas and my wife had Chirizzopollo, both were terrific. The refried beans and the Mexican potatoes were unbelievable. Juan was very attentive, delivering great service. The restaurant was very inviting and a relaxing atmosphere.

This place pleasantly surprised us! We needed a place to eat on the road that was by the highway. We looked up places right after Belleville IL all the way to Mt. Vernon IL. We didn't want junk/ fast food, or anything heavy. This place stood out to us. BUT we are picky about Mexican food, being from California and New York (real authentic Mexican food all around/ high standards). The outside looked a little rundown, but unique at the same time. Inside is beautiful! They did a nice job of making it cozy, colorful, well presented, with authentic Mexican decorations, and pictures on the wall, nice wooden booths, authentic music playing, etc. It looked very clean, and well kept. It was refreshing to see a lot of Mexicans working there and eating there-- in hopes that the food would be more authentic, and it was! Drinks were brought out quickly, then our server came, brought chips and fresh salsa. The salsa was homemade and very flavorful! We ordered the fajitas Agave to share - chicken, beef, shrimp mix. It comes with grilled peppers, onions, tomatoes- yum! All very flavorful and fresh. It comes with a side plate of rice and beans (the traditional Mexican rice and refried beans- but I saw later you could also order their black beans), pico de Gallo, guacamole, shredded lettuce, sour cream, and tortillas. We chose corn tortillas and they were fresh and tasty. The green hot sauce on the table was good and added a good kick! My son ordered the kids meal chicken tenders, side rice and beans. But they had fries, and other things available, as well as Mexican food kids meals. Food came out quickly! And it was so fresh. They weren't too busy since it was 1:30p (new years eve). They didn't have horchata, which I expected, since usually only the taquerias do. But I did see they had an extensive drink menu of alcoholic beverages, like Micheladas, tequila drinks, creative Mexican themed drinks, etc and a full bar. I noticed they have a large menu of vegetarian items and veggie skillets. Creative ones, that I know many vegetarians would appreciated -- since I was vegetarian for 19 years (no longer but still enjoy it and appreciate when I see it, especially in small towns.) The bathroom was clean, service great, nice music, nice host, and we were able to get in and out quickly, to get back on the road- appreciated! Definitely worth the stop! Seems like a great family spot, or hang out after work. Thanks for filling our bellies, Agave!

Came here while visiting friends in town. The place is huge. I did not see any outdoor seating which would of been great. The service was great and staff were very friendly. For sure American version of Mexican food but pretty good. The had a great drink list as well.

We came here on a Tuesday night at eight and we're seated immediately. The chips and salsa that we started with were very delicious, however the salsa is on the tomato-y side so decline the salsa if you are not a fan of tomatoes. What we ordered: I ordered the veggie fajita and my dad ordered the Caribe shrimp. My fajita came with a generous portion of veggies and a side of beans guacamole and pico de gallo. My dad enjoyed his dish And said the portion of shrimp was great. Our server was very kind and attentive. Overall a great experience!
